After working for a few years as an artists model, I started searching for a networking site for the industry. I found several for photography, but none for art modeling specifically except for a failed attempt to launch one in the UK.
When I realized that what I needed didn't exist, I learned how to use open-source website platforms and built it myself. It ran for about two years, ending with 800+ members. It went down because I was broke and trying to keep it a free service. The Art Model Place is to be a global networking site for the figurative art industry. It will contain model portfolios and business profiles for those who hire them. It will also create a comprehensive directory of classes and workshops available to artists in their communities, and connect them with professional models to work from. I've also studied the archaic booking systems in place at dozens of institutions, and designed a system into the website that will automate and streamline the whole process.
